Hey Tucson, I have jury duty in a couple of weeks. My only mode of transport right now is my scooter, and I have yet to venture downtown. Does anyone know which garages and lots downtown allow motorcycles? Thanks!

I'm getting that late summer tequila craze again. Not the toilet hugging kind. The tasting kind. I'm working on adding some digs that serve a variety of tequila to my tequila regulars (which are Hotel Congress's Tap Room, Cafe Poca Cosa, Cushing Street).
I'm thinking of checking out Miguel's at La Posada, Zivaz Mexican Bistro, and Salud at Marriott Starr Pass.
I've already been impressed with Blanco Tacos + Tequila but due to its remote location from my location, I won't be frequenting it enough to go bankrupt.
SO! Do you have a favorite 100% agave outlet?

I have a tattoo of a semicolon on my wrist. It's tiny and cost me $50. I want an exclamation mark on my left wrist, now, same size and font, but I'm not so sure I want to fork out that much money for a tattoo that takes 2 minutes. (Literally, my semicolon took 2 minutes)...
Any one know of reputable tattoo artists/shops anywhere in Tucson that don't charge an outrageous house minimum?
Thanks.

I looked through the memories and the answers I found there didn't completely satisfy my questions. So here it is. my dog went over to our friends house for a couple days and he came back limping. He probably ended up playing too roughly with our friend's rottweiler and if he doesn't stop limping in a day or two we're going to get it looked at. I'm wanting to know about what vets would be the least expensive, without sacrificing quality care to take him to get it checked.
Also I have a cat that needs to be spayed. The least expensive place I found was $65. Is this a good thing or is there less expensive places? Let me know considering both these animals are pretty new and I haven't had to deal with these things before.

Dear Tucson,
Thank you SO VERY MUCH to everyone at Plush and The Surly Wench last night who fed me. I was able to raise almost $50.00 to help Team Esperanza in their efforts to raise money to fight breast cancer. I know the team is very grateful for your generosity! The team will be walking 60 miles over the course of 3 days in November. If you are interested in more information about what your donations support, click on the highlighted words "Team Esperanza" and you will be directed to their team web page. There you can find links to the individual pages of each walker and to more information about the event and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust.

Anyone familiar with good thrift shops they'd like to recommend? Not so much for clothes, but for furniture or trinkets.

Show at the Union Gallery!

|

|
Check it out in the UA News! Article Here.
Also, add us on myspace and facebook EVENT: “Facing Front: Chris McGinnis and the School of Dance” The Union Gallery installation, “Facing Front” features paintings by MFA student Chris McGinnis and documented choreography by Professor Douglas Nielsen of the School of Dance. The exhibition proposes a less formalized approach to art and performance by challenging the traditional ‘sit in a chair and watch me’ approach to dance the exhibition. The atmosphere integrates video, paintings, and the body in an art gallery setting rather than the familiar stationary ‘facing front’ performance experience. This installation emphasizes the congruency found between different forms of artistic expression. “Facing Front” will feature a closing reception on September 5, along with dance performances of modern choreography on September 2 and 4. DATE: August 15 – September 5, 2008 CLOSING RECEPTION: Friday, September 5 from 5-7PM. This event is free and open to the public. DANCE PERFORMANCES: Tuesday, September 2 and Thursday, September 4 from 3:45-5PM. This event is free and open to the public. LOCATION: Union Gallery Student Union Memorial Center, 3rd floor, NE corner The University of Arizona 1303 E. A few quotes that I find inspiring and thought-provoking.
[Artistic talent is] nothing more or less than childhood rediscovered at will---a childhood now equipped for self-expression. -Charles Baudelaire
The film of the future will be shot by adventurers. The film of tomorrow appears to me as even more personal than an individual and autobiographical novel, like a confession, or a diary. The young filmmakers will express themselves in the first person and will relate what has happened to them: it may be the story of their first love or their most recent; of their political awakening; the story of a trip; a sickness, their military service, their marriage, their last vacation... and it will be enjoyable because it will be true and new... The film of tomorrow will not be directed by civil servants of the camera but by artists for whom shooting a film constitutes a wonderful and thrilling adventure. The film of tomorrow will resemble the person who made it and the number of spectators will be proportional to the number of friends the director has. The film of tomorrow will be an act of love. -Francois Truffaut

New to town...

Hi all! Just moved to Tucson and have a few questions.
1) Can anyone recommend a good bank/credit union? I'm looking for something with great online access, a free checking account, and a fair number of ATMs in the Central/University area.
2) I'm thinking about becoming a biker. Any advice on where/how to purchase a bike? I'll be on it for 4-5 miles a day, total, so I'm not looking to spend a ton of money. (For reference, the bicycle will be to and from campus, and around campus as needed. I've got a car to use for getting around town more generally.) 2a) Has anyone taken one of the city's bike riding classes? Was it worth it?
3) Looking for a great happy hour bar, also in the Central/University area. A plus would be great deals on mixed drinks, imported beer, or snack food. A super-plus would be someone that wants to hunt for one with me.
Let me know! |

Local Textile Shops

Hey All you Sewing Savvy people!
The Mountain View HS Color Guard is looking to save some money by having the silks for our flags be sewn in Tucson--either by parents or by local business. We're hoping to get a local business to do it so that we can have high quality silks and a lower stress level for parents--which is always best. :D
Sew... (haha...) Does anyone know of any good textile/sewing shops around town? (I tried JazzSkins, and I was not well received.) They'll be working with Polyester China Silk which is pretty self-explanatory: a synthetic lightweight silk-like fabric designed specifically for Color Guard. Also the best way to do it is with a serger. Obtaining the fabric is a non-issue as I know where to buy it in bulk. I just need people to sew it.
Any help or advice would be highly appreciated.
Thanks! |

ROOM FOR RENT

Hullo there, I've got a room available in my totally sweet house in Armory Park. 3 bedroom/2 bath, central air, dishwasher, washer and dryer, brand new renovation, high speed internet and extended basic cable. I'm a 35 year old courier/musician and I pretty much keep to myself in the back of the house when I'm there, and I've got my own entrance. My current roommate is a 22 year old female grad student. You'd work it out with her as far as which room you'd get. Your choices are as follows: You get master bedroom with full bath attached in front of house. Big windows, nice and sunny, ceiling fan. That'd be $400 plus utilities, so living expenses would be $475-500 per month. OR--- Small bedroom in middle of house, share bathroom with me, and common area livingroom with other resident for $275 p/month. I'm fun, she's a sweetheart, and we're both respectful of personal space. I'd prefer another student or someone who works nights. Lease would be from asap through January, and you'd have to get approved through the property management ompany. Here's pics! None of the bedrooms I'm afraid, but they're nice.

Hi.
I have a blown pair of JBL computer desk speakers. Where in Tucson can I dispose of / recycle them properly? I've tried to offer them to people interested in electronics (i.e., dissect components)... no luck.
Any info on electronic recycle drop-boxes or someone wanting to take something apart, please email.
Thanks for your help. |

Hey guys!
So I recently moved more into town (6th and Campbell) and I was wondering what options there were for internet access. Speed is important, of course, but keep in mind that I am a student and moving out for the first time, so I think my main concern is cost. Yes, I am aware there is free wifi on the U of A campus but I don't have a laptop and certainly don't have the cash around to get one (though if you know of someone who wants to trade one for / buy a desktop I am not opposed to getting one.)
Thanks in advance! |
